The Lowry Hotel's Top Tips for a Special Mothers Day Breakfast!
Eyck Zimmer, Executive Head Chef gives some expert advice on making that all-important
Mothers Day breakfast
Making Mum breakfast in bed is an age old Mothers Day tradition. For a truly special meal, Eyck suggests keeping it simple. Follow his top five tips for showing your Mum you care this Mothers Day.
1. The best breakfasts are simple, and this is key when making up a tray of special treats. Eyck suggests toast and pastries for a Mothers Day breakfast as they are delicious yet easy to eat in bed. He says:
“Any elaborate cooked breakfasts can be difficult to eat in bed, making what should be an enjoyable breakfast seem complicated. For a truly special breakfast, try simple pastries – perhaps a warm plate of fresh croissants, or your Mum’s favourite bread as toast.”
2. No breakfast would be complete without a nice motherly cup of tea. Eyck suggests making your tea the old fashioned way – in a pot. Boil the water and use it straight away to warm the teapot. Then tip this water away and add three teabags to a large pot or two to a smaller pot. Pour the boiling water over the tea and leave it to infuse for five minutes. Once it has brewed, pour over a small amount of milk in to your Mum’s favourite mug.
3. Mums are forever trying to eat healthily, so give them a helping hand and put some fruit on your breakfast tray. For a really special touch you could always make a fruit salad.
“Gather three of your Mum’s favourite fruits. These could be anything, I suggest a fresh apple, some blackberries and strawberries. Chop in to bitesize pieces and place in a bowl. Pour a small amount of orange juice over the fruit and voila!”
4. Give some thought to the presentation of your tray. If you have a Mothers Day card, place this on the tray along with some flowers from the garden. These small things will make the gesture seem very special.
5. Finally, give your Mum the ultimate in luxury and give her a glass of Champagne with her breakfast. For a special touch, pop one of the strawberries in to the glass too.
Follow these fail-safe tips for a special Mothers Day Breakfast in Bed and you can’t go wrong. Most importantly, let your Mum have a lie-in before you take her breakfast in – don’t be too eager!
